99 problems, and a book ain't one

   Another great book in the Reveler series! I do wish these books were a little longer, at only a little over 100 pages it the story does go by rather quickly, but there aren't any dull moments either. Lay me Down focused on two characters that we met in the first book, Maisie (Jordan's wild sister),  and the ultimate Chimera recruiter, Coll (aka Steeeeeeve). Maze is definitely an interesting character, she's her own person, and believes that most rules were made for breaking. She pretty much stirs up trouble wherever she goes, but at the same time is a genuinely decent person. She gets herself in a heap of trouble in the first book, while being a currier for some not so nice people in the Reve.  Like her sister, Maze has some unique talents with the Reve. I really like with each new addition we get a larger picture of not only this incredible dream world, but also the people that inhabit it. We are seeing more amazing abilities from the people that live in this world too.

    "The dark city that struck up into a midnight sky was drawn with razor sharp edges, each formation a meticulous rendering of angles and detail, yet the dark patches weren't just shaded black, but were empty vacuums of density. From the buildings' windows gleamed an occasional white light. Her dream wasn't a localized conception, either; it had a sense of vastness, of completion, the likes of which he'd never witnessed before."

  I was really impressed that with this being a shorter book, the romance did not feel rushed. It was more slow starting than the previous book. There was more conflict and animosity between Coll and Maze at the beginning. There relationship slowly evolved with the story. I really liked that. Coll was a very mysterious character. You start out not really knowing much about him or what he is truly capable of, and slowly get glimpses at the power he wields. He was very different from the characters we have met thus far, and his was a welcome addition to this growing world.

   While the drama between Maze and her unwelcomed pursuers was happening, there was also more bits and pieces of the darker side to this dreamscape being uncovered. We got to learn a little more about the nightmarish creatures that live on the outskirts of the Reve, in the shadows of the Scrape. Kellison yet again only gives you these tid bits in small doses though. The more you find out, the more intrigued you are. It has a inception like feel to it. Each book just adding another layer to such a vast idea. There were so many twists and turns throughout the book that you were constantly on the edge of your seat just waiting to find out what happens next. I will say I was a little confused about the whole idea of the waking dreams aspect and also the transferring of memories element.

But like so much else, we only got a taste of that, and I'm curious to see if that will all be looked at more in depth in the following books. I hope so.

   The end of Lay Me Down definitely leaves you wanting more. Things seem very far from finished. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. The possibilities, like the dream world itself, are really limitless with this series. Thus far my interest only continues to grow with each addition. Lucky for me the third book seems to have been released yesterday! I already purchased it and look forward to starting very soon. I highly recommend this series to fans of PNR that are looking for something new and unique.
